Current Information About the Volcanoes on the Aeolian Islands : 

Stromboli is the only continuously active volcano in Europe. Since the explosions on July 3, 2019, the Italian Civil Protection authorities have suspended summit hikes, and this restriction remains in place to this day. Anyone attempting to climb Stromboli on their own risks heavy fines. However, guided hikes up to a certain altitude are permitted and are reassessed daily.  

If the Aeolian Islands weren’t islands, they would certainly be a year-round destination. However, the travel season is generally limited to the period from Easter until the end of October. After that, it’s still possible to reach the islands, but with some limitations—most accommodations are closed during the off-season. The best times to visit are May and June or September and October. July and August are only recommended for travelers who are used to heat and aren’t bothered by temperatures exceeding 104°F (40°C). Additionally, like much of Italy during summer, the islands are very crowded, and accommodations can be hard to come by. Die sieben Liparischen Inseln sind vulkanischen Ursprungs und beherbergen gleich 2 aktive Vulkane: Vulcano und Stromboli, wobei Stromboli als aktivster Vulkan Europas gilt. Wer noch ein paar Tage auf dem Festland dranhängt kann sogar einen dritten  aktiven Vulkan besichtigen  - den Ätna. 

Die Liparischen Inseln - oder auch Äolischen Inseln sind nicht so einfach zu erreichen, wie man denkt. Die Inseln besitzen keinen Flughafen wie Mallorca, Ibiza etc. Somit ist man wie früher auf die Seefahrt angewiesen. Sogar in der griechischen Mythologie werden die Liparischen Inseln erwähnt. Hier auf den Inseln soll der Gott Äolus seinen Sitz gesucht haben, nachdem er von Göttervater Zeus beauftragt wurde, die Winde zu verwalten. Odysseus Irrfahrten , die durch den Gott Äolus verursacht wurden endeten auf den Liparischen Inseln, nachdem Odysseus nach Ende des Trojanische Krieg auf dem Rückweg zu seiner Frau nach Ithaka war. Deswegen werden die Inseln auch Insel der Winde genannt. Auch heute spielen die Winde auf den Liparischen Inseln eine große Rolle, wenn es zur Überfahrt auf die Liparischen Inseln oder zwischen den Inseln geht.
